Xcel and Junior Olympic Levels 6-10 compete in numerous gymnastics meets across North Carolina and southeastern states. PCG Team girls practice hard and are continually perfecting their skills in addition to progressing and learning new skills. They are a fantastic group of young ladies, enjoying the spirit of team along with the fun of gymnastics. All of Port City Gymnastics' gymnasts qualify for State Competitions and in 2016 the gym had 26 gymnasts attend Regional Competitions. Team membership is by invitation only after a coach evaluation with tryouts being held each May. Sign up can be found in your jackrabbit portal. For special circumstances, contact the gym at 910-793-1921.
Junior Olympic and Xcel Levels
Port City Gymnastics hosts both Junior Olympic (Levels 6-10) and Xcel Programs. All programs are run according to USA Gymnastics guidelines and compete in meets across the state of North Carolina. Consult with your child's coach to see which program is best for her.
Junior Olympic Levels 6-10
Junior Olympic (JO) is an excellent opportunity for gymnasts to improve athleticism and safety by advancing their skills at their own pace as they progress from level to level. Port City Gymnastics offers JO at the Optional Level (Levels 6-10). At the Optional Level, gymnasts are judged based off the skills they perform and the overall level and performance of the team. Gymnasts advance to each level based off of their competition scores. JO is an intense track and a good choice for any gymnast that has strengths in all areas of gymnastics.
Xcel is a "fast-track" program that allows gymnasts to practice and master skills more quickly than in JO. Through the program, each gymnast is able to let her individual strengths shine as she works towards improving her skillsets. Gymnasts in the Xcel program are able to participate in competition almost immediately and pursue competitive gymnastics without the same pressures of JO. Xcel is a good choice as well for gymnasts who wish to learn the skillsets required for High School or college team, but are not able to spend the time progressing through JO levels.
